Fry’s Metals, established in 1947, is a lead smelting operation situated in Germiston. The core business is the recycling of lead acid batteries and other forms of lead scrap. Its important that their operations comply with government health safety and environmental standards.
To make sure employees abide by these rules, they approached Sound Idea to produce an in-depth health and safety induction video for their employees, contractor and visitors.
Lead is a heavy metal that accumulates in soft tissue and bone over time with possible adverse effects on health should it not be monitored and levels kept under control.
The production team had to take safety measures, like every other person who enters the facility, to protect themselves from lead inhalation.
The video highlighted the ways in which employees should protect themselves from lead exposure which includes cleaning themselves of dust and dirt, wearing different uniforms when entering the canteen or clean facilities and several other scenarios and settings that would be important for a new employee to be familiar with.
